Interval International and RCI are the Timeshare
Holiday Ownership exchange companies, offering exchanges in 94
countries at over 4,000 affiliated resorts. To become a member of an
exchange company you simply purchase a week of Timeshare at an RCI
or Interval International affiliated resort and then pay a
registration fee to join their Exchange
Program.
Once you are a Member you can then exchange your holiday
week each year and take holidays at resorts other than the one you
actually own at and at different times of the calendar year. For
this reason many people buy timeshare purely for exchanging.
However, getting the holiday you want depends upon the exchange
power of your ownership.

Timeshare is divided into seasons or
time bands, which are Blue/Green-time (Low-season), White/Yellow-time
(Mid-season) and Red-time (High or Peak-season). Resorts
are also afforded a status: for example, RCI: Affiliate/Family
Resort, Resort of International Distinction (RID), Gold Crown.
Interval International use the star system similar to the hotel
industry, grading resorts 3*, 4* or 5*.
The exchange
power of a One Bedroom (T1/4) Blue/Green-time week at a 3* or Affiliate
resort is significantly less than
the exchange power of a One Bedroom (T1/4) Red-time Peak week at a
5* or Gold Crown resort,
and this is reflected in the price you will pay for a Timeshare.
Purchasing the wrong timeshare will mean that you will not be able
to get the exchanges that you want, as many owners have found to
their cost. However, the
RCI Points holiday reservation system
can
provide a solution to this problem, allowing owners to upgrade
their ownership quickly and easily, and at considerable savings.
